The President of 4 g Americas, Chris Pearson, warned that the 5 g’s in the headlines of the specialized vehicles, but requires a long time to realize its full potential. The Authority further claims that the 5 g will only be a reality if there is spectrum for the provision of new services. On Tuesday, 11/08, the 4 g Americas published a technical note with 5 g Spectrum recommendations, describing the various factors influencing the spectrum requirements and the need to ensure access to several tracks of spectrum.

The technical note presents an initial analysis of the challenges and implications of various bands of spectrum, the various factors that influence the spectrum licensing and possible technological breakthroughs guaranteeing access to new spectrum bands.

“With the growing presence of mobile data applications in all areas of society, will be very important support for the system and the 5 g architecture – and the spectrum is essential for the future success of LTE networks and 5 g in 2020 and beyond,” said Reza Arefi, Director of Spectrum strategy for the Group of devices and Intel’s communications and joint leader of the working group that produced the technical note. There are highlights in the document issued by 4 g Americas:

Mobile spectrum bands below 6 GHz will be important for the integration of systems 4 g and 5 g.

The spectrum in bands above 6 GHz range offer some technical challenges; but it is possible to develop mobile services in the highest tracks with new solutions.

The various bands are required to meet the requirements of coverage and new capabilities of 4 g and 5 g more advanced systems.

Smaller frequencies provide better coverage and propagation characteristics, and support the implementation of macro cell and small cell.

It is important to consider the new frequencies other than those traditionally used in cellular systems, especially the frequencies above 6 GHz.

These higher frequencies can withstand higher bandwidth carriers due to the high volume of available spectrum in bands with wavelengths in the millimeter range, providing peak rate too high

in specific areas that require a lot of data traffic.

Regulators need to act to meet new spectrum needs, ensure the evolution of 4 g technology and support the arrival of 5 g, identifying new spectrum bands for evaluation by ITU-Radio Sector (ITU-R).

“The 5 g is an evolution and a revolution, and we need to take advantage of all sources of spectrum: licensed, unlicensed and, when necessary, shared,” said Anders Svensson, Main group Solutions Manager RAN to the next generation of Ericsson North America and joint leader of the working group that wrote the technical note.

“Regulators and political bodies need to encourage the necessary investment in advanced research in the wireless sector. It is important to ensure investment in all areas of this ecosystem to create a Connected Society, where each person and each sector can realize their full potential, “he added.
